Dessert is supposed to be a bit sinful, isn’t it? This dreamy blend of bananas, cacao, and maca will elevate your spirit and induce a sense of well-being. Maca is traditionally used as an aphrodisiac in native Peruvian culture. You’ve been warned!
A powerful adaptogen, maca improves the health of the adrenal system and helps the body counteract adverse effects of both daily and chronic stress. For this reason, maca is a wonderful herb to incorporate into the diet during a time of detoxification. In addition to its use in smoothies, it can be incorporated into raw desserts (cooking maca root at high temperatures can destroy some of its beneficial nutrients), or sprinkled atop oats or porridge.
Though the taste of maca itself isn’t at all unpleasant, the addition of creamy blended bananas, raw cacao, dates, and cinnamon make this smoothie taste more like a milkshake than anything. If the shake turns out too thick and you’re more into straws than spoons, just add filtered water in slow increments until your dessert reaches desired consistency.
– 2 frozen bananas (peeled, chopped, then frozen)
– 1 ½ tbsp raw cacao powder
– 1 tbsp raw maca powder
– 1-2 dates, pitted
– ⅛ tsp cinnamon
– 1 cup almond milk (or other alternative milk)
– optional: filtered water to blend
– optional: cacao nibs to top
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
