Scopello Italy offers one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. But don’t take our word for it! La Tonnara di Scopello is among the most coveted filming locations in Hollywood. The tuna fishery, likely the only remaining remnants of a tuna fishery in Italy, sits in the middle of a cove surrounded by olive trees. Accommodations for the fishermen (“tonnare”) still remain under the watchful presences of a medieval tower. La Tonnara di Scopello is featured in films such as Ocean’s 12, Largo Winch, and Sicilia.
The city of Scopello offers sweeping ocean views, century old traditions, expansive history, fantastic shopping, delicious food, and clear blue waters. Whether you’d like to walk along the quiet beaches of San Vito lo Capo or spend a rigorous day hiking along the white rock cliffs, you can find it here.
We offer yoga and meditation classes daily. All experience levels are welcome to join, and all yoga and meditation classes are completely optional. If you feel like joining us daily, then you are absolutely welcome. If you decide to spend the time on your own exploring the village or relaxing in the villa, that is also completely fine. This is your retreat to enjoy as you wish. (Classes range from Yin to Vinyasa.)
Federico Fellini, renowned Italian filmmaker once said, “Life is a combination of magic and pasta.” We couldn’t agree more. In Italy, food is love and life. Italian food is known for its simplicity. As a guest on our retreat, you’ll eat your way through Scopello, Italy with the fervor and love of a true Italian. Italians take their food seriously, often dining for hours over fresh pasta and flowing conversation.
At breakfast, Marisin serves flakey homemade pastries, fresh local fruit and juice, homemade jams (the marmalade is made from oranges and lemons grown in their front yard), local honey, meats, and delicious bread, fresh from a wood-burning oven. In the evenings, you’ll dine on five-course meals with fresh, local ingredients. Salvatore and Marisin Tranchina, the owners of Pensione Tranchina, collect all of their ingredients from their own neighborhood and transform these modest ingredients into works of edible art. Of course, you can’t truly experience Italy without trying Italian olive oil. Marisin and Salvatore make their own olive oil from 200 year-old olive trees on their property. You’ll get to enjoy it with fresh ricotta and fabulous company.
For 8 days and 7 nights, you’ll be staying in a family-owned bed and breakfast adored by locals and visitors alike. Nestled atop the picturesque hills of Scopello, this quaint 10-room guesthouse is lovingly cared for by owners Marisin and Salvatore. The Villa sits just 2 km from the Zingaro Nature Reserve and is just a short walk from the local village. All guest rooms feature a private bathroom, mini fridge, and comfortable accommodations. Some rooms have ocean views and balconies.
8am – Begin your day with an invigorating Vinyasa yoga class
10am – Head down to the kitchen for a home cooked Italian style breakfast of fresh bread, jams, cheese, meat, and fresh fruit
11am – After breakfast, spend a couple of hours doing whatever you wish. Take a walk along the beach, go shopping for treasures, or sip an espresso while taking in the gorgeous views from the village.
12pm – In the afternoon, we’re heading to a local winery for a tour and a tasting.
3pm – Once you’re thoroughly relaxed and full of delicious wine, we’ll return to the Villa for an afternoon siesta. Take the time to read, take a nap, or rest at the hotel.
8pm– Each evening, we’ll all come together for a 5-course dinner served family style in our private restaurant.
“The trouble with Italian food is that 5 or 6 days later, you’re hungry again!” ~ Henry Miller
