Yoga makes Yumi smile! She started practicing Yoga seriously in 2009, and was amazed by what yoga could offer: flexibility, endurance, strength, and body and mind awareness. In 2011, she completed the 200-Hour Power Vinyasa Teacher Training (RYT) under Ali Valdez (Sattva Yoga) and Liz Doyle.
Yumi would like to share her love of yoga with her students, allowing them to experience yoga’s benefits through fun, open-minded, and sometimes challenging classes. She regularly practices yoga and attends workshops under Liz Doyle, Ali Valdez, Troy Lucero, Lisa Black, Edward Clark (Tripsichore), and Andrey Lappa (Universal Style).
Read on for a brief Q&A with Yumi!
How/when did you begin practicing yoga?
5 years ago, in February of 2009.
What is your favorite part of teaching?
I learn and am inspired to learn more by teaching. And getting to know students as individual yogis who share the passion of yoga.
What is your favorite pose?
What one piece of advice would you offer to new/aspiring yogis?
Be patient in balancing avoiding injury and working hard. Try to “feel” the asanas in the body — not just going by how it looks.
What one piece of advice would you offer to yogis considering Teacher Training?
I would recommend researching the style of yoga (lineage), teaching methods, knowledge, curriculum offered in the teacher training.
We have to be able to teach what we believe in. Teacher training should provide you the tools to do so.
