This 6 week series will help beginners feel empowered and comfortable when stepping into any yoga class. We will spend time breaking down alignment, common mistakes, and breathing techniques (pranayama). You will also gain familiarity with language often used in yoga such as sanskrit names as well as common cues teachers give and what they mean when they say things like “knit your ribs together.” Things we will specifically focus on include:

  • Gaining a solid understanding of the basic sun salutations (or surya namaskars) used in vinyasa yoga
  • Proper form in chaturanga and how to flow safely between down dog & upward facing dog
  • How to stay safe in backbends
  • Alignment in basic standing poses
  • When and how to use props in class
  • The importance of breath
  • How to listen to your body and make modifications/adjustments as needed

The goal of this series is to help you feel confident in your yoga practice. Each class will always end with an opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion. All students will receive a packet at the end of the course including information that was covered.
